Henry Palaszczuk says voters have rewarded the Premier because "she kept them safe" as the state goes through the "age of uncertainty".

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk’s father says voters have repaid his daughter for keeping them safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

While not ready to declare victory for a third time for his daughter, former Labor minister Henry Palaszczuk said he was “encouraged” by early results.

Mr Palaszczuk put the statewide swing towards Labor down to older voters.

“Annastacia’s kept people safe, especially the elderly people and I think they are repaying her,” he told Channel 7.

Mr Palaszczuk said COVID-19 was likely going to be part of our lives well into 2021.

“People have thought about that and they’ve gone for the person who they know, who they trust and who they believe in,” he told Channel 9.

He went on to pay tribute to his daughter, who took over the seat of Inala following his retirement in 2006.

“She’s such a wonderful person, she’s a wonderful daughter and she loves Queensland and loves Queenslanders,” he said.

“I just want her to be here for another four years to look after all of us.”
